ENGLISH 8 AND HONORS ENGLISH 8 – THIS ONE IS FOR YOU. I WILL GO OVER IT WITH YOU IN CLASS ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND. BUT, FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO FOLLOW THE WARZYBLOG, YOU GET AN EARLY SNEAK PEEK. THIS INFORMATION WILL ALSO BE POSTED IN GOOGLE CLASSROOM, SENT IN AN EMAIL, AND YOU WILL RECEIVE A HARD COPY.

NOVEMBER PROJECT FOR ENGLISH 8 & HONORS ENGLISH 8

DIRECTIONS: COMPLETE EACH ACTIVITY. USE COMPLETE SENTENCES. YOU MAY RECORD THESE ACTIVITIES IN ANY FORMAT YOU LIKE: HAND-WRITTEN, TYPED, GOOGLE DOCS, GOOGLE CLASSROOM, A TRADITIONAL JOURNAL, A HANDMADE JOURNAL.

ACTIVITY #1 – CREATE A “GRATITUDE JAR.” FROM NOVEMBER 2ND TO DECEMBER 1ST, EVERY DAY WRITE DOWN SOMETHING YOU ARE THANKFUL FOR ON A SLIP OF PAPER AND PUT IT IN THE JAR. USE COMPLETE SENTENCES. BRING THE JAR WITH YOU TO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2ND. THE “JAR” CAN BE ANY NON-BREAKABLE CONTAINER (NO GLASS OR CERAMIC CONTAINERS).

ACTIVITY #2 – DO SOMETHING KIND FOR SOMEONE. WRITE A 7 SENTENCE PARAGRAPH IN WHICH YOU TELL FOR WHOM YOU DID THE KIND DEED, WHAT YOU DID, THEIR REACTION, AND HOW YOU FELT AFTERWARD.

ACTIVITY #3 – LOOK UP THE WORD “MAGNANIMOUS.” WRITE OUT THE DEFINITION. IN A FIVE-SENTENCE PARAGRAPH, DESCRIBE SOMEONE YOU KNOW WHO IS “MAGNANIMOUS.”

ACTIVITY #4 – IN A PARAGRAPH, EXPLAIN THE MEANING OF THE QUOTE, “WE WRITE TO TASTE LIFE TWICE.”

ACTIVITY #5 – WHAT IS A GIFT YOU WISH YOU COULD GIVE TO SOMEONE? IN A PARAGRAPH, TELL TO WHOM YOU WOULD LIKE TO GIVE A GIFT. EXPLAIN WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO GIVE THEM AND WHY.

ACTIVITY #6 – WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE THANKFUL? EXPLAIN IN A PARAGRAPH.

ACTIVITY #7 – WRITE A POEM ABOUT FALL OR THANKSGIVING. IT MAY RHYME, BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE TO.

ACTIVITY #8 – USING SENSORY DETAILS, DESCRIBE YOUR FAVORITE HOLIDAY FOOD OR MEAL.

ACTIVITY #9 – DESCRIBE A TIME WHEN SOMEONE WAS KIND TO YOU? WHAT DID THEY DO? HOW DID IT MAKE YOU FEEL?

ACTIVITY #10 – EXPLAIN THIS QUOTE BY PLAYWRIGHT OSCAR WILDE, “The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.

ACTIVITY #11– MAKE AND DECORATE A THANK-YOU CARD FOR SOMEONE. INSIDE, WRITE FIVE THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT THAT PERSON. GIVE OR SEND IT TO THEM. WRITE WHOM YOU THANKED AND THE FIVE THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT THEM. TELL HOW YOU FELT AFTER YOU COMPLETED THIS ACTIVITY. TAKE A PICTURE OF THE OUTSIDE AND INSIDE OF THE CARD.

ACTIVITY #12 – DO SOMETHING HELPFUL FOR A FAMILY MEMBER OR A NEIGHBOR. DESCRIBE WHO YOU HELPED, WHAT YOU DID, AND HOW YOU FELT WHILE YOU WERE BEING HELPFUL.

ACTIVITY #13 – BAKE OR COOK SOMETHING FOR SOMEONE IN YOUR FAMILY. SIT DOWN WITH THEM AND EAT TOGETHER. WRITE A PARAGRAPH ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE. TELL WHAT YOU MADE AND WITH WHOM YOU ATE.

ACTIVITY #14 – GO FOR A TEN-MINUTE WALK. DO NOT WALK ALONE. AFTER YOU ARE DONE WALKING, WRITE DOWN WHAT YOU SAW, HEARD, FELT, & THOUGHT WHILE WALKING.

ACTIVITY #15 – OPEN THE GRATITUDE JAR, AND READ EACH SLIP. WRITE A PARAGRAPH DESCRIBING HOW YOU FELT AS YOU READ ABOUT THE THINGS YOU WERE THANKFUL FOR.
