Today, period 4 had a very special guest. Former Sussman Pioneer, student of Ms. Warzy, and recent U.S.C. graduate, Mr. Philip Shimada, came to share his wisdom with Honors English 8.
Philip is a graduate of Downey High School, where he was crowned Prom King. From DHS, he went to USC on a full-ride scholarship, where he doubled majored in English and Psychology with a minor in Occupational Therapy. Philip is starting a Master’s degree program at USC in the fall.
Philip encouraged the students to focus not only on school but on developing their life story and having fun. He shared the challenges he faced when, as a high school student, he missed months of school and lost the vision in one eye. He also shared tips on how to earn a scholarship, not give up, and pursue one’s passions.
Thank you, Philip, for taking the time to come to room 32. We appreciate you very much!
